What is the EV chargepoint grant?

The EV chargepoint grant is a UK government scheme that helps cover the cost of installing a home EV charger. In 2026 it’s worth up to £500 (increased from £350 on 1 April 2026) and covers 75% of the combined cost of buying and installing a socket, up to that cap. It’s funded until at least 31 March 2027.

Unlike the older, broader scheme, today’s grant is targeted: it’s mainly for people who rent their home or own a flat, rather than homeowners living in a house.

Who qualifies?

To be eligible you generally need to:

  • Rent your home or own a flat (the grant is aimed at these groups)
  • Have an eligible electric vehicle (or have one on order)
  • Have off-street parking at the property
  • Use an OZEV-authorised installer

If you live in a house you own, you most likely won’t qualify, as the earlier homeowner grant has closed for the majority of households. The biggest ongoing saving for homeowners comes from cheap overnight charging tariffs instead.

EV chargepoint grant eligibility decision tree Flow chart with three yes-or-no questions. First: do you rent your home or own a flat? If no, you are unlikely to qualify because the earlier homeowner grant has closed for most households. Second: is there off-street parking at the property? If no, there is an on-street route instead, used with a cross-pavement solution such as a charging gully. Third: do you have an eligible electric vehicle, or one on order, and an OZEV-authorised installer? If yes to all three, you get up to 500 pounds off, covering 75 percent of the combined cost of buying and installing, funded until 31 March 2027. Do you rent your home, or own a flat? No Unlikely to qualify the earlier homeowner grant has closed for most households Yes Off-street parking at the property? How much could you save?

Because the grant pays 75% up to £500, the exact saving depends on your total installation cost:

  • On a £900 installation, 75% would be £675, so you’d receive the £500 maximum.
  • On a £600 installation, 75% is £450, so you’d receive £450.

How to claim it

You don’t apply yourself; your installer claims it for you. An OZEV-authorised installer handles the grant application and deducts the amount from your bill, so you only pay the reduced price. They’ll confirm your eligibility and let you know exactly which documents are needed before the work is booked in. Evova doesn’t administer grants, but you can find an authorised installer in our directory.

No off-street parking?

If you can’t park off-street, there’s a dedicated route within the EV Chargepoint Grant for on-street parking, used with a cross-pavement solution such as a charging gully, plus separate grants for landlords. See our EV charger grants & funding hub for the full list of open schemes, current amounts, and who each one is for.

Grant amounts and eligibility are set by the government and can change. Always confirm the latest rules on GOV.UK; see our grants hub for source links and the date each figure was last checked.
