Commercial & Destination Charging
How AC and DC charging built for public use works: the right mix, payments, grid supply, then finding an installer.
Charging that drives footfall and revenue
For hospitality, retail and leisure businesses, EV charging is no longer just a nice-to-have. It’s a reason for customers to choose you, stay longer and come back. This page explains how commercial and destination charging works so you can plan with confidence before comparing installers. Projects typically run end to end, from survey to switch-on.
The right mix of charging
- AC fast charging (7–22kW): best value where customers dwell, including hotels, restaurants, gyms, retail and workplace car parks.
- DC rapid charging (50kW+): quick top-ups for forecourts, retail parks and high-traffic sites.
The right blend depends on your visitors and your supply. Payment and access systems let you set tariffs and recover costs, and an installer can recommend the mix that fits your site.
What it typically costs
Commercial projects vary enormously. A single AC unit is a different order of cost to a multi-bay DC rapid site with a grid upgrade. As a rough guide, commercial installs often start from around £2,500 and rise with power output, civils and any DNO works. The only accurate figure is a site-specific quote.
End-to-end delivery
A commercial project usually spans the initial supply assessment and DNO liaison through to civils, installation, commissioning and ongoing monitoring. Many installers also offer maintenance contracts to keep chargers reliable and uptime high. Ask prospective installers what their scope and aftercare include.

Find an installer
When you’re ready, compare commercial charging installers in the directory and choose who to ask for a quote. Looking at staff charging instead? See workplace & office charging, or explore our commercial charging guides.
Grants & funding
Government EV charging grants are run by the DfT/OZEV and claimed through an OZEV-authorised installer, not by Evova. See which schemes are open and what they cover before you get a quote.
