Who the VCHRGD Seven Pro suits

The Seven Pro is the charger to shortlist if you want the lowest realistic price without giving up smart features. At £395 unit-only from the manufacturer and roughly £830–£1,030 installed (July 2026), it undercuts most big-name rivals, yet the spec sheet reads mid-range: native Intelligent Octopus Go, two solar-charging modes with the CT clamp in the box, dynamic load balancing as standard and built-in open-PEN protection. One identity note: this review covers the Seven Pro. VCHRGD’s shop now lists only the Pro among its 7kW home chargers — the original Seven is still OZEV-listed and may linger in retail stock, but the Pro is the current model. If you need Ethernet for a patchy WiFi spot, or want a longer warranty than three years, pricier rivals earn their premium.

Key features

  • 7kW single-phase (marketed as 7.4kW), tethered or untethered — OZEV lists 5m and 7.5m tethered variants, and the untethered version has a cable lock-in feature that lets you leave your own cable in place.
  • Native Intelligent Octopus Go integration, launched 6 January 2026, with off-peak rates from 7p/kWh.
  • Two solar modes via the CT input: Solar Export blends grid and PV, topping up the car once your export passes roughly 1.2kW, while Solar Only charges exclusively from surplus solar.
  • Dynamic load balancing as standard, with the CT clamp included in the box.
  • Open-PEN protection and an inbuilt 6mA RCD, so no earth rod is required.
  • WiFi, Bluetooth and RFID — two tap-to-charge cards included — plus an optional 4G module and TLS-encrypted OCPP 1.6J support for platforms such as WEVO, Fuuse, Powerverse, Clenergy and Tap Electric.
  • Compact: about 300 x 180 x 90mm, IP54-rated with an IK10 impact-resistant enclosure, and a 3-year warranty.

What to check before you buy

  • Tethered or untethered? Untethered is the cheapest route, and the cable lock-in feature gives it tethered-style convenience. See how tethered and untethered compare.
  • Pin down the price. The manufacturer’s shop lists the untethered unit from £395.24 and the tethered 7.5m unit from £448.57, but doesn’t state VAT treatment; its fully-installed price starts at £850. Get installed quotes in writing.
  • No Ethernet. Connectivity is WiFi or Bluetooth, with 4G as a paid option — check signal strength at the install spot.
  • Tariffs beyond Octopus: OVO Charge Anytime and EDF GoElectric work via your car or platforms like Powerverse, not a native VCHRGD integration. Confirm with your supplier before relying on it.
  • Solar floor: the manufacturer doesn’t publish a minimum surplus figure for Solar Only mode, and single-phase charging can’t drop below 6A (about 1.4kW), so small PV arrays may rarely trigger surplus-only charging.

Evova doesn’t sell chargers. Check whether your install could be part-funded through a grant, then find a home charger installer to fit it.

Pros

  • Among the cheapest OZEV-listed smart chargers, from £395 unit-only
  • Native Intelligent Octopus Go integration since January 2026
  • Solar charging and dynamic load balancing as standard, CT clamp in the box
  • Built-in open-PEN protection, so no earth rod needed

Worth knowing

  • No Ethernet port — WiFi, Bluetooth or an optional paid 4G module only
  • OVO and EDF tariff support relies on your car or third-party platforms, not a native integration
  • No published minimum-surplus figure for Solar Only mode, so small PV arrays may struggle to trigger it

Frequently asked questions

Is the VCHRGD Seven Pro eligible for the OZEV chargepoint grant?
Yes. The gov.uk eligible chargepoint model list (updated 15 June 2026) includes numerous Seven Pro variants — tethered and untethered — plus the original Seven, approved for both residential and commercial grant types. Your installer must be OZEV-authorised and claims the grant on your behalf, so confirm you qualify for one of the current schemes before booking.
Does the VCHRGD Seven Pro work with Intelligent Octopus Go?
Yes, natively. VCHRGD launched an official Intelligent Octopus Go integration on 6 January 2026 covering both the Seven Pro and the original Seven, with off-peak rates from 7p/kWh. Other suppliers' schemes, such as OVO Charge Anytime, work via your car or a third-party platform rather than a VCHRGD-native link, so confirm with your supplier first.
How much does the VCHRGD Seven Pro cost installed?
The manufacturer sells it fully installed from £850, and third-party reviews in July 2026 put typical installed prices at roughly £830 to £1,030 depending on the job. Unit-only, the manufacturer's shop lists the untethered version from £395.24 and the tethered 7.5m version from £448.57, though it doesn't state VAT treatment. Get installed quotes in writing.
What happened to the original VCHRGD Seven?
VCHRGD's shop now lists only the Seven Pro among its 7kW home chargers, so the original Seven is effectively superseded. It remains on the OZEV eligible list and some retail stock may linger, but the Seven Pro is the model to buy new in 2026.
