Who the Wallbox Pulsar Max suits

The Pulsar Max is the pick if you want a small, unobtrusive tethered charger and you’re on (or planning to switch to) Intelligent Octopus Go. Wallbox added native integration with the tariff in February 2025, so the charger handles cheap-rate scheduling itself — no compatible car required. At 198 × 201 × 99mm and 1.3kg before the cable, it’s genuinely compact, and six colour options make it easier to hide on a wall than most rivals.

Solar households can make it work, with a caveat. Eco-Smart’s Full Green mode is proper surplus-only diversion — it charges from your panels alone once the surplus passes 6A, roughly 1.4kW — but it needs Wallbox’s optional Power Meter, which isn’t in the box. If solar charging is your main reason for buying, price that in, or compare a charger with diversion built in.

One tariff note: Wallbox doesn’t appear on OVO’s Charge Anytime compatible-charger list (last updated April 2026), so OVO customers would need a compatible car to get the smart rate. And if automatic cheap-rate charging is the deciding factor, see how it stacks up against the tariff specialist in our Wallbox Pulsar Max vs Ohme comparison.

Key features

  • 7.4kW single-phase charging; 11kW and 22kW three-phase variants exist for the rare UK homes with a three-phase supply
  • Tethered Type 2 cable, 5m as standard — a 7m option is also available
  • Native Intelligent Octopus Go integration with automated smart scheduling
  • Eco-Smart solar charging (optional Power Meter required): Eco mode blends solar with grid, Full Green charges from surplus only
  • Built-in PEN fault protection on UK units, so no earth rod is needed
  • IP55 / IK10 build for indoor or outdoor installation
  • myWallbox app over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with Alexa and Google Assistant support; OCPP 1.6j compatible
  • Power Boost dynamic load management available via the same optional meter accessory

What to check before you buy

  • It’s tethered. The UK unit ships with a fixed 5m cable — measure the run from wall to charge port before choosing the standard or 7m version, as you can’t swap it later without an engineer.
  • Connectivity is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth only — there’s no Ethernet fallback, so check the signal at your intended install spot before committing.
  • Warranty depends on purchase date: 5 years from 1 October 2025 onwards; units bought earlier carry 3 years.
  • Solar diversion costs extra — the Power Meter is a separate purchase.
  • Price: from around £496 unit-only (checked July 2026). Installation is quoted separately by your installer.
  • Grant rules: it’s on the OZEV eligible list, but the £500 EV chargepoint grant only applies to renters, flat owner-occupiers and landlords — not standard homeowners.

Evova doesn’t sell chargers and has no affiliate links. When you’re ready, find a home charger installer for a fixed quote, and check the grant rules if you rent or live in a flat.

Pros

  • Genuinely compact (198 × 201 × 99mm) with six colour options
  • Native Intelligent Octopus Go integration with automated scheduling
  • Built-in PEN fault protection on UK units — no earth rod needed
  • Robust IP55/IK10 build; 5-year warranty on purchases from October 2025

Worth knowing

  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth only — no Ethernet fallback if your signal is weak
  • Solar diversion needs the optional Power Meter, sold separately
  • Standard cable is 5m; the 7m option costs extra

Frequently asked questions

Is the Wallbox Pulsar Max eligible for the OZEV grant?
Yes — the Pulsar Max appears on the government's eligible chargepoint model list. But the EV chargepoint grant only covers renters, flat owner-occupiers and residential landlords, not standard homeowners. Since 1 April 2026 it is worth 75% of the cost up to £500 per socket, and funding is confirmed until 31 March 2027.
Does the Wallbox Pulsar Max work with Intelligent Octopus Go?
Yes, natively. Wallbox announced the integration in February 2025, so Pulsar Max owners can join Intelligent Octopus Go with smart scheduling handled by the charger itself rather than needing a compatible car. Wallbox claims savings of up to £700 a year, though your figure depends on mileage and usage.
Can the Wallbox Pulsar Max charge from solar panels?
Yes, but only with the optional Wallbox Power Meter (a CT-clamp energy meter sold separately). With it fitted, Eco mode blends solar surplus with grid power, while Full Green mode charges from surplus alone once export passes 6A — roughly 1.4kW, the minimum current a car can charge at. Out of the box there is no solar function.
How long is the Wallbox Pulsar Max warranty?
It depends on when you buy. Units purchased on or after 1 October 2025 carry a 5-year warranty; purchases made between January 2022 and October 2025 have 3 years. Keep your proof of purchase, as the date determines your cover.
