EO
EO Mini Pro 3
One of the smallest smart chargers you can buy in the UK, sold installed by Hive — but its maker's collapse clouds long-term support.
£523 unit · £1,189–£1,249 installed checked July 2026

Who the EO Mini Pro 3 suits
The Mini Pro 3 is the charger to shortlist if kerb appeal and size matter most. EO quotes 230 x 151 x 125mm — “about the size of an A5 notepad” — and while Hive lists a slightly smaller figure, both call it one of the smallest smart chargers in the UK rather than definitively the smallest. (The Zaptec Go 2 is its closest compact rival.) It’s also the hardware behind the Hive EV charger: British Gas sells it installed from £1,189 (tethered adds £60), with the install managed through the Hive app.
One thing you must weigh first: EO is no longer the company it was. It sold its domestic charger hardware business to Cogent Technologies in November 2025 and entered administration in April 2026. The charger was still on sale in July 2026 (around £523 unit-only at retail) and the app runs on the independent ev.energy platform, but long-term firmware and warranty backing carries more risk than with a healthy manufacturer.
Key features
- Compact body: one of the smallest UK smart chargers, in tethered (fixed 5m Type 2) or universal-socket versions.
- 7.2kW single-phase output at 32A on the home unit — marginally below the 7.4kW some rivals quote. A 22kW three-phase variant appears on the OZEV list, but UK home sales centre on the single-phase model.
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Ethernet as standard, an optional 4G module (availability varies by stock), and OCPP 1.6 support.
- ev.energy app for smart scheduling, off-peak charging and energy insights — or the Hive app if bought through British Gas.
- CT clamp in the box enables power balancing plus grid-assisted solar matching; the solar side is basic next to the myenergi Zappi’s dedicated diversion modes.
- Built-in open-PEN protection, so no earth rod is needed for outdoor installs; rated IP56 tethered / IP54 socketed.
What to check before you buy
- The manufacturer situation. Support is split between ev.energy (app), EO’s remaining support routes (direct purchases) and Hive (British Gas purchases). Be comfortable with that arrangement before committing.
- Tethered or untethered? The socketed version takes 5m, 7.5m or 10m cables as accessories; Hive charges £60 extra for tethered. See how to decide between a cable and a socket.
- Tariff fit. It isn’t on Intelligent Octopus Go’s compatible-charger list, and it’s absent from OVO Charge Anytime’s list too — cheap-rate charging means time-of-use scheduling in the ev.energy app against a two-rate tariff such as Octopus Go. If native tariff integration matters, look at the Ohme ePod instead.
- Warranty terms. Hive quotes three years with a British Gas install and two years without professional installation; given the administration, get warranty backing confirmed in writing.
- Install extras. It has 6mA DC leakage detection built in but relies on protective devices in your consumer unit, so check your installer’s quote covers them. Hive lists extras such as bonding (+£160) and long cable runs (+£90–£300).
Evova doesn’t sell chargers. Check whether your install could be part-funded through a grant, then find a home charger installer to fit it.
Pros
- One of the smallest smart chargers on the UK market — EO quotes 230 x 151 x 125mm, about the size of an A5 notepad
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Ethernet as standard, plus OCPP 1.6 support
- CT clamp included in the box for solar-aware charging and load management
- Built-in open-PEN protection, so no earth rod is needed outdoors
Worth knowing
- EO entered administration in April 2026, so long-term firmware and warranty backing carries real risk
- No named smart-tariff integrations — not on the Intelligent Octopus Go or OVO Charge Anytime compatible lists, so cheap-rate charging relies on app scheduling
- 7.2kW peak output on the home unit, marginally below the 7.4kW typical of rivals
