Who the Zaptec Go 2 suits
The Zaptec Go 2 is for buyers who want their charger to outlast their current car. Launched in the UK in September 2025, it’s marketed by Zaptec as the country’s first V2G-ready AC charger: the hardware supports ISO 15118, and bi-directional charging is promised via over-the-air software once the remaining standards are finalised and car makers switch V2G on. That’s an honest maybe rather than a feature you can use today, but if you plan to keep a charger for a decade it’s one of the strongest future-proofing cases on the market.
It also suits homes with (or planning) a three-phase supply: automatic 1-to-3 phase switching unlocks up to 22 kW where the supply allows, though a standard single-phase UK home gets the usual 7.4 kW — our 7kW vs 22kW guide explains what that difference means in practice. Native OCPP 1.6J makes it a good fit for anyone who’d rather pair it with a third-party energy platform than live inside one manufacturer’s app. Its closest rival for open-platform, multi-charger homes is the Easee One — see our Easee vs Zaptec head-to-head. If your priority is squeezing the cheapest kWh from a smart tariff today, look at the the tariff-led Home Pro instead — the Go 2 has no native tariff integrations.
Key features
- 7.4 kW single-phase, up to 22 kW three-phase, with automatic 1-to-3 phase switching.
- V2G-ready hardware: ISO 15118 hardware support, with bi-directional charging promised via future software updates.
- Bi-directional MID Class B certified meter with a backlit screen and LED status ring.
- Built-in 4G LTE, WiFi (2.4 GHz), Bluetooth LE and an RFID reader.
- Native OCPP 1.6J (cloud or on-device) plus API and webhooks; Zaptec recommends ev.energy for smart and solar charging.
- Eco Mode price-based smart charging and scheduling in the Zaptec app.
- Load balancing across up to three chargers on one supply.
- Compact and rugged: 239 × 178 × 73 mm, 1.6 kg, IP54, IK10 impact rating, 5-year warranty.
What to check before you buy
- It’s untethered only, with no cable in the box — budget roughly £100–£200 for a Type 2 cable. An electronic lock lets you leave one permanently attached. See our guide to living with an untethered charger.
- No built-in open-PEN protection. Unlike the original UK Zaptec Go, the Go 2 has no integrated O-PEN device, so homes on a PME supply — most in the UK — need an external fault-protection unit. Ask your installer to include it in the quote.
- Tariff savings are manual. Scheduling works with fixed off-peak windows like Octopus Go — and So Energy named Zaptec its preferred home-charging partner in July 2026 for its fixed-window So EV tariff — but there’s no supplier integration to claim extra Intelligent Octopus slots or follow half-hourly prices.
- Solar is assisted, not surplus-only. There’s no built-in surplus diversion: solar optimisation runs through a third-party platform such as ev.energy (whose Zaptec integration is live in the UK) or an OCPP controller, and charging keeps a minimum draw of roughly 1.4 kW. For true surplus diversion, the the Zappi solar diverter remains the benchmark.
- Price it in full. At about £638 for the unit and roughly £1,050–£1,250 installed before a cable (checked July 2026), it sits at the premium end of the 7.4 kW market.
