The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) Explained
A clear guide to the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) in 2026: how much it's worth, who's eligible, how the voucher works, and how to install workplace EV charging.

What is the Workplace Charging Scheme?
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a UK government grant designed to help organisations install EV charge points for staff and fleets. It provides a voucher covering 75% of the combined cost of buying and installing charge points, capped at £500 per socket (raised from £350 on 1 April 2026) and up to 40 sockets per applicant, a maximum of £20,000 across a site.
Who can apply?
The scheme is open to:
- Registered businesses
- Charities
- Public sector organisations
You’ll need dedicated off-street parking for staff or fleet use, and a real or anticipated need for EV charging. Unlike the home grant, the WCS is claimed via a voucher you apply for first, then redeem through an authorised installer.
How the voucher works
- Apply online for a WCS voucher through the government scheme.
- Use an OZEV-authorised installer: find one in our directory.
- The installer carries out the work and redeems the voucher, deducting the grant from your bill.
The voucher is time-limited once issued, so it’s worth lining up your installer before you apply — our claim walkthrough covers each step in detail. Evova does not administer the scheme; it’s claimed for you by the authorised installer who does the work.
Making the most of it
The grant covers the charge points, but smart design makes the whole project go further. Dynamic load management shares your available supply across the chargers and the building, often avoiding an expensive grid upgrade. Planning the cabling for future expansion now means you can add sockets later without major disruption.

Thinking about charge points at your workplace? Browse the directory to find an OZEV-authorised installer who can confirm your eligibility, size the installation sensibly, and handle the authorised-installer side of the WCS. Grant rates and rules are set by the government and can change. Always confirm the current terms on GOV.UK; our grants hub links the official source and shows when each figure was last checked.
